What type of toolbox should a lube tech at a dealership start out with?

January 30th, 2010

I’m starting a new job soon at a dealership and am required to have my own tools. What do lube techs usually start out with as far as toolboxes?

Just a small hand carried tool box with metric wrenches and SAE wrenches and a 3/8" drive socket set for both types, a cresent wrench, and a 1/2" drive breaker bar will sufface, you don’t need a lot of tools for an oil change.

Ask your boss. They should be able to tell you what you need. You do know how to change oil, and filter, find any grease fittings and all.
I would think a combination socket and open end wrench set, metric and american, cresent wrench, both screwdrivers.

For a lube tech you probably need a tool cart to start out with something with a few drawers,a lockable lid.
Soon as you gain more automotive experience and decide to buy a tool box the local tool trucks(Snap-on,Matco,Cornwell,Mac tools) are usually willing to help you get a tool box and or more tools on a payment plan based on your credit and job history!
As for tool you probably need a good socket set metric and standard sizes both shallow and deep sockets, an impact rachet and impact gun 1/2" and good set of screwdrivers.
    Good luck
